Running on 25

I turned 24 last week.. time for yet another what am I doing with my life contemplation.. But you know what, its not that messed up.. I’m happy with the way things are.

Since my last birthday, over a year ago I’ve had
3 interviews for new jobs.
0 fatal injuries
0 blog posts
0 successful startups.
0 apps made
0 insecurities overcome
0 songs sung
11649 battles played in an online game.

Those numbers put shit into perspective huh..

I’ve also had
4 innovative ideas, of which I’ve been able to work on 2.
25 new acquaintances made.
1 server set up, which ran for 2 months on digital ocean before they shut me down for lapse of payment.
3 new domains purchased.
1 very unhappy employer.
1 extremely stupid/bold move.
0 laptop formats! Whoopieeee!
2 hard disk crashes. Fuck that!
2.5 TB of data in uncertainty.. see above.
9 Facebook posts/shares
at least a billion photos where I’m tagged in.
1 new suggestion on what to call my blog. Thanks to Sriram (why the heck didn’t I think of it before)
58 whatsapp conversations.
35 new movies seen.

I don’t like this anymore.. so I’m gonna just leave it here.

One more

Another one of those anomalies..written a while ago..last one I promise..since one note on my phone has cleverly decided to not show me the dates, Once up on a time in yonder land will have to suffice for now..

I’m a little hesitant in expressing myself to everyone, I guess more than two people throws off my natural cool. This time, last week(I’m not sure how that will work until we have time travel, but for the sake of future me, lets go on) I had written something quite long on my phone during my return from home. Now, sitting in a crammed seat with two big bellied kids hanging on the arm rest of my seat for dear life, I write this because I felt I should pen down my thoughts. Lets just say I’m lazy as fuck to open skydrive, copy this into wordpress and put this on my blog.

I’ve started listening to music on long bus rides. I seem to have the same playlist always. Avial, Hey Jude and Yellow Submarine by Beatles and Too old to die young by Brother Dege. And when that starts repeating, I move on to Linkin Park and Basshunter followed by Enigma and Evanescence. I never thought I would be listening to music for so long. But hey what ever takes my mind of the honking and the gear shifts..

On other news, I’ve started on two new languages last week. Not French and Russian as I’ve always wanted, but on python and ruby. Lets see where I’ll start wishing I’d started on Arabic.

My online gaming disorder is on full steam ahead. I don’t know if ill stop playing it in say another couple of years. This week, I improved my in game rating by one. Some of you may remember the world of tanks we fought side by side in my dream.:)

Owwwwwww…!

At this point, one of the kids elbowed me in the eyes. Its good to know I’ve not become so grumpy as to be angry at them.

I recently saw My Boss. Entertaining as it may be, I shut my laptop down 10mins into the movie. Why do we have to rip off Hollywood? The Proposal that came out in 2009 is the one I’m talking about. Its the exact same story, going through the exact same scenes for 80% of the time. If you don’t consider the Antihero in the mallu version. What I don’t get is, why people think a family entertainer has to have a antihero to hate. And a fight scene also all those stupid songs and dance alongs.. But of course the heroine has to have some sentimental background so we feel sorry for her. God! How ever it is true that had I seen My Boss before The proposal, I wouldn’t have hated is so much. This is what happened with Big B. I saw Four Brothers after I saw Big B. Well it’s sad..

I’ve reached Kollam now and my playlist has ended. Now playing Eternal by Evanescence. Time to sleep!

Its time to sleep irrespective of the chronological disorder and space time continuum anomalies.. good night folks!

I’ve had it up till here with you, you stupid noobs!

Exciting as it may be to work for a very dynamic, young group of people, there are some disadvantages to it. The plan of action is ever changing and if you drop out for a couple of days, you are out of the loop. I’ve learnt a few things though. Including but not limited to, businesses are never run to help anyone but thyself. Give not any word because you are sure as hell not gonna be able to keep it. There will always be that one guy who hates you and man its a bitch when he decides to quit. Getting things done is the major priority, nothing else matters till then, no later how many end up hating you, you must get shit done.  My HOD is quite pissed at me because her daughter didn’t clear the interview for a job at this place. Like what was I supposed to do if there were jobs before the interview and none after it (not having taken anyone)

Couple of things I always wanted to do once I got a job remain unaccomplished. I wanted get my own hosting space and put my blog up in there was one or them. Getting an android phone to test my applications another. Getting pizza once a month another..:)

Trivandrum is a nice place and all..but it’s like a second tier city. Peaceful and beautiful as it may be, the people in it are not ready to pick a side yet. They are at a border with one leg into the city life and the other in an entirely different mind set.

Started using whatsapp recently and got to talk to a lot of people whom I would otherwise have not. This led me to think about how it works on the iPhone because background processes are frowned up on and things you need to do to get an app through to the appstore is epic. The only reason, I think, for them to have so many developers must have something to do with the language and framework. Obj C is another that I learned while at this place and it was awesome. Realized you don’t really need to know Java all that much to code for android as well.

I’m embarking on a quest to learn python. I should’ve started a long time ago but what the hell.

I’ve always wondered if KSRTC didn’t want to be more efficient. I mean shouldn’t public transportation encourage people to use it?I don’t understand why technology is alien to the government, the bank where records are kept In writing and on the servers. Redundancy level is over 9000! I’m sure every one would’ve thought of improving certain aspects of things around us, that affect us. But why don’t we do it? Electricity is scarce. Power holiday ruined 3 packets of milk the other day not to mention the 2hours that it’s slacking off daily. Third world country and all, no water either, but come on!

The amount of paper that’s wasted confounds me too. I think the ATM feels it should give me some sort of output that I can take home and review if it can’t dispense money. Why would I want a piece of paper that says “Unable to process request”? The most retarded part is, it asks in advance if I want a printed receipt. To which no matter what you say, if it doesn’t have money you get this print. I’m pretty sure all it has to do is do a if(userWantsPrint) print(); Then there are the swipe and enter magnetic locks on all the doors. Can’t remember an ATM where it worked. (they have implemented this now in the most annoying way possible since then)

Another most annoying thing is retards on the road. Of course you are gonna screw up if you overtake a one lane traffic block in a two lane road. But that’s bearable. When people on bikes try to overtake the guy overtaking is when everything gets welded in place. Shouldn’t I wait a bit? Nooo…I’m too machismo for that!

If you have reached here and have actually bothered to read through it, comment below..I owe you a drink..:) I’ve left this company of mine I speak about about 5 months back  and the reasons are better left untold.
Typed this up in one up sometime last yea..atleast 10 months old..on one of those bus journeys from my home to Trivandrum.. One more such post to follow..

And Haris, this is not raging about the social media this time.

I’m back

Ivent written a post in over a year. I thought ill brush it up.. Starting with this, typed up on my tab while on my bed.. I did type stuff up on my phone to post it here.. But never got to it.. Ill post them here soon..

Love it that people like to share their thoughts and stuff that they find interesting, with friends and groups that you have or are part of. But, why do you love these chain mails and messages so much? Why do you not question its authenticity like you would on seeing a “12 babes near you wants to chat with you” ads? Why do you gobble up things that resemble the real thing and even go as far as tell everyone and then ask them to tell more people. Why shouldn’t you have your own say in it? don’t know anything about it? Go find out..no ones stopping you. But if you think you would rather not, I don’t think you would be reading this right now. Its that curiosity that we have in all of us that has brought you here. Start questioning things. Start exploring. Be curious.

On wishing people on occasions like friendship day, the reason I refrain from wishing mainly is because I hate to discriminate you people. How do you decide on whom to wish and not. How can you wish the guy who sat next to you in class and not the guy who sat in front of you. One answer is to wish’em all. Then what’s the point of wishing if you don’t mean it? How can you mean it when you are satisfied with a general “I love you all”. Why can’t you call them up if that person means so much to you. If you can’t spare the trouble to do that, don’t do a status update wishing everyone. I know you have 897 friends. And this helps but imagine how much it means to wish someone. Divide it by 897. Is that all you got for your friends?

I can’t even begin to express my rage on RIP messages. Just have the fucking decency to not post them on Facebook.

LTC mining

Ive started LTC mining and so far, have made ~0.7LTC. You can buy them in exchange for real money as well at https://btc-e.com/exchange/ltc_usd . You can chip in and give me some if you want at LgSJKJ72JJAqyE7cGMy9v4LGmX7Qut5tw9 :) I dont see chipping in happening since Ive already asked for it before.. :/

Arattupuzha and the bus ride on the beach(literally (well may be)..

Boarded a bus that goes an different route to Trivandrum.. This one goes via arattupuzha and goes around the Kayamkulam kayal..no traffic what so ever..can’t do more than 30kmph though..for the past 15 mins, I was the only one on the bus apart from the driver and the conductor who was very reluctant to let me on.. And the bus just got on to the beach road..I’ve the sea to my right and amen in my head..:) I’m taking this bus from now on..

I see women spinning coir ropes, men coming back from the sea, kids jumping around pups or kids for that matter..there was a paramettan memorial trophy football tournament here 19-26.. You would think I’m talking about a place very far away from home.. This place must be at max 5-6kms away.. Still I see much less flex boards than I would otherwise see on the highway..

20m away from the seashore! There is no road anymore..this just keeps getting better.. Turning away from the seashore now.

I would’ve reached my first checkpoint on the highway by now. I paid more, and this takes 40mins more as well..

We are turning around now at arattupuzha. It seems there never was any road, at least for the most part. There’s the sea to my left and the lake to my right.. I don’t think they have met..:)

On other news, the headsets I ordered from Flipkart were faulty and found this out on Friday. I’m getting a replacement soon. Got a new hard disk for dads laptop. Still hunting for a hdd recovery specialist.. Printer that dad bought from Doha  needs a regional reset so I can buy ink from here. Damned HP being an insecure lil kid.. I wonder if there are any printers that are more liberal.. :/

Well, here are some of the pics.

Irani

Haven’t blogged in a while like I used to, I am a bit rusty and here is me having a go at it again:)

Irani, until lately, to me was this nice little restaurant near my cousins home where he had contacts and could get away with an empty wallet may be a couple of times.. Good food there and we used to buy food to take home and at times eat there..

I’m friends with food enthusiasts at work and I felt right at home:P So naturally, there was the talk about good food places and what their specialties were.. After a lot of unheard names and delicacies, Irani came up..I thought to myself, hey I know that one..So, over exited me, jumps to the occasion, not rises but jumps, and says “Isn’t it that nice little place in Poojappura? I didn’t know it had a special dish.” Turns out, there is an Irani at Vellayambalam and they serve great food of a van..I’m like “hmm..van..food?”

This was a couple of weeks ago and we all decided to go there once..last week, came such an occasion where we decided to go there..Here is a timeline

5.30
I don’t know what to expect from a van..I’m about to be taught its not just some van.

6.30
We leave from office and “Iraniyil povualle?”(don’t have Malayalam on my windows phone..) was heard as an “ashareeri”..(Joe said..”only voice, no video”). So four of us me, Labeeb, Joe, and Akhil, all of us hungry unanimously vote “Yes”..but they get there only by 7.30..(danmed mobile restaurant, i thought). So we decide to walk all the way there..its probably 3 or 4 kms from our office..well, the idea was not to get there before 7.30

6.50
Well, at least sometime around that, we reach Kanakunnu Kottaram, and spent some time going through the art exhibition there.. The theme was Bio Diversity, lots of abstract paintings and ones with in depth meaning..me and Joe started naming ones that were not named.. Labeeb mean while found one with Life of Pi tiger and the dude aged around 50..

7.30
300 paintings and a very hungry growl later, we got out of the Palace and off to the van with food.. We reach there sometime later and order “Irani Special”,Dosa for two and porotta for two.. He mentioned it would be 10mins since the pan was not warm enough.. We were quite hungry by then and we decide to wait at the steps of the HSBC bank atm.

7.45
Our stomachs were growling synchronously like those synchronous swimmers in the Olympics. Labeeb decides to buy a simple beef fry and have it while we wait. But the dude wont let us buy anything “ippo readyavum..oru patthu minute.” We go back to waiting.. But this time, we were giving the pan all the moral support it needed..

8.00
The pan was still not hot..(pan being a 3′ x 2′ dosa kallu) hence all the time.. Me and Akhil moved closer to the pan and kept looking at it.. There was entertainment as well, the chef chopped away onions like an artist.. He kept telling us the same thing the dude at the cash told.. We could take it no more.. The main reason was the aroma of fried, roasted and curried things that we did not order..grr..

8.30ish (losing track of time around now)
The pan was finally hot.. Chef did the usual oil painting over it and we assured ourselves, there comes our Irani Special.. The chef instead started baking dosas.. Well, its for us..we ordered dosa for two..”all is well”…

8.35ish
5mins and 25dosas later, the chef did the oil painting all over again and poured batter for 75% of the space..Ah finally Irani Special on that 25%, thought us..But no! He poured batter over it as well..Now hes just messing with us!

Next round
Irani special! Chopped onion, chilli, salt and loads of pepper..while it was being turned brown(i’ve no clue what this process is called..i shouldnt blog anymore..) he goes inside the van to get our beef chilli, and puts it on top of the onion, 5 eggs cracked open like an expert also goes into the mixture.. The aroma was epic partly because we were all beef enthusiasts and partly because our stomach would take in almost anything at that point..

We are given our share of the amazing Irani Special and maan, we gobbled it like we had not seen food in weeks.. Labeeb ordered the normal beef fry as well..let me tell you the next beef fry was the highlight of the whole evening..That beef made all the difference in the world to me..

I went home with a skip in my steps and once home, I sat on the sofa like I was in bliss till it was time to go to bed..Wow what a day i thought drifting away into oblivion..:)

Near Kanakakkunnu Palace

This is right outide the Palace and my camera has failed to capture the real beauty..Us at Irani

The one who took the pic is me and this time, i failed to capture all 4 of us..:P

We went there twice that week after that day.. We ordered Irani Special never after that.. More restaurant adventures soon..:)

Obj C adventures

A month into the job and I realized how awesome obj c and i now see why apple gets so many developers. You get a huge amount of flexibility working with views and view controllers, not to mention arrays.
self.navigationcontroller.viewcontrollers gives you the whole list of viewcontrollers you have pushed on to the navigation controller in an array. You can get data pushed on to each page by navigating to [self.navigationcontroller.viewcontrollers objectAtIndex:index] where index is the index of the pushed view controller. There is no need for a shared datastore or a static variable accessible from anywhere in the code. Dynamic typing of arrays to such an extend where you can add anything in the whole coding-verse as an element in the NSArray object;

more on it soon :P

And yes, i put a semicolon at the end..
